ROLE-PLAY DEFINITIONS

Q: WHAT IS POWERGAMING?

A: A powergamer is a roleplayer who’s main interest revolves around going on a power trip. They often enjoy portraying characters such as Gods, Ancient Red Dragons or ultimately powerful mages. Characters who never display flaws or weaknesses are powergamers

An example of powergaming:

- Beatrice Buttocks is a second year Slytherin but instead of being average and flawed, she is a metamorphmagus, half-Veela, and also has the Elder Wand in her control. In addition she can produce a full Patronus (a cute bunny, even) and knows a lot of Dark Magic. Basically she is the next Voldemort and more powerful than Dumbledore ever wished
to be.

Q. WHAT IS GODMODING?

A. Playing God – for example being immune to all types of influence, injury, issues, or being almighty above everything and everyone.

Example:

- Beatrice Buttocks is at it again! The all-powerful second year has been doing things (such as killing) to other role-players without their consent. Beatrice cannot be stopped either because she is in an indestructable magical shield and is floating above the Astronomy Tower.

Q. WHAT IS METAGAMING?

A. Using OOC commentary, reading tags, or using any information in your RP that was not gained or discovered IC.

Example:

-  A few students have managed to take refuge in the Room of Requirement. Normally Beatrice wouldn’t suspect them – not until she uses her in-world radar to track them down.  She also knows every character’s name because it’s on their tag.
