Out of Character Rules

Rules are here to be followed. If you do not agree with our rules and cannot follow them, we regret to inform that Hogwarts: Your Story may not be the RPG for you. While we will not go overboard with our rules, we expect members to follow them.

  • You also cannot monitor private IMs and distribute logs to others. If found, an AR will immediately be filed. No one is above their authority over the ToS, regardless if something is stated like “I reserve my right to pass private IMs to whoever I want to” in their profile.
  • Respect the OOC staff members. We are here to create an environment for everyone to enjoy, not just a single person. We have worked hard on constructing rules and regulations as well as building and funding the sim by ourselves. When a OOC staff member raises a concern or suggestion to you, please consider it. If you disagree with a staff member, speak to another one, and if nothing is resolved, we ask you to please remain courteous and civil. If otherwise, we will look into disciplinary action.
  • No obscene behavior, no visible genitalia, no nudity, and semi-nudity. Don’t know if what you’re doing/wearing is acceptable? Contact a GM, another player, or the Sim Owner(s).
  • Respect. Respect for ourselves and others around us is one of the many little things that make the entire RPG enjoyable for everyone, not just yourself. We at Hogwarts: Your Story strongly encourage and even require that you respect your fellow roleplayers OOCly so that we may create a fun and friendly environment for all.
  • Discussions in open chat should overwhelmingly be IC. Any OOC discussions should be short and must be in double parentheses. Extensive OOC discussions should be moved to IMs to avoid disrupting the RP environment.
  • One of the most important rules of all is that what is IC must remain IC. While everyone is here for the enjoyment of exploring Harry’s world through our character’s perspective, we must realize that this is all entirely fiction. If something happens in IC that affects you negatively OOCly, don’t let it get to you and DO NOT attack/harass other players. No one likes that nor will they appreciate it.

WHAT CONSTITUTES A BAN?

THREE STRIKE SYSTEM & TEMPORARY BANS

** For most offenses there will be a three strike system:

  • First: Warned.
  • Second: Banned for seven days from the sim.
  • Third: Banned permanently from the groups and sim.

** Offenses such as godmodding, powergaming, and metagaming are usually the prominent reasons to be given a strike. There are several situations that can and probably will occur but it is impossible to list them all. I’m sure the future will bring altercations that defy the written rule so leaving it up the owners to decide is the best way.

** If we discover you playing or attempting to apply an unregistered alt, your alt application will be thrown out and depending on the seriousness of the offensive this could result in a ban.

PERMANENT BANS

** Griefing and age-play are two offenses that will garner an auto-ban with no questions asked. Using the group chat(s) to harass fellow members or admins does count as griefing, no matter the reason.

** FOLLOW SECOND LIFE’S TERMS OF SERVICE AT ALL TIMES. FAILURE TO COMPLY WILL RESULT IN YOU GETTING REPORTED TO LL AND ALSO BANNED FROM THE SIM (LENGTH DETERMINED BY NATURE OF THE SITUATION).

OTHER

In addition, if you are involved in OOC drama with another member we suggest using any feature that Second Life provides to ignore them. It is honestly not our problem unless it disturbs our RPG and in that case BOTH parties will face consequences. If you feel that you are being OOCly harassed, please IM an Admin or an ALO.

The admins do not endorse any type of outside Student/House Group in Second Life. The only “Official” H: YS Groups will have one or all of the six Admins listed as Owners: Anya Ohmai, Corwin Lacourte, Elidon Byron, Jazzy Fhang, Juniper Ellisson or Pywackett78. If you don’t see either six of us listed as the Owners, then the group you are joining is not officially recognized or endorsed by us, there is no way for to monitor the activity in the Group. Please note that being part of an unauthorized group could result in a ban as the Admins see fit.
